Instead of studying for finals, I decided to start watching Jane the Virgin, after hearing so many good things about it from multiple people. Thanks to this show, my GPA is not the only thing that has fallen; I’ve definitely fallen for the show as well.
Jane the Virgin has an annoyingly addictive quality as a show. The characters are quirky, flawed, but lovable. The bond between mothers and daughters and the emphasis on family–and how it always comes back to the strong, unbreakable bond between the Villanueva women–is definitely one of the show’s strongest selling points. I love shows that allow their women to be strong and independent, yet also show that it’s okay to be vulnerable and sometimes you have to lean on a support system. Sometimes good friends and family are all you really need. Continue reading
